At what we hope will become an annual event, Smartlogic, Downtown Partnership, and EAGB brought together tech-heavy startups with industry heavy-hitters at b2Bmore. Startups met with representatives from Baltimore linchpins including Stanley Black and Decker, Exelon, and Under Armour to discuss how agile technology developers and service providers could bridge the gaps in large organizations to build new innovations with massive reach.
In opening remarks Smartlogic's President Yair Flicker shared some insight into where the inspiration behind b2Bmore came from -- through random encounter with Stanley Black and Decker at a Technical.ly Baltimore event. Yair shared that the Stanley Black and Decker team was "in need of a software development team but didn't know where to find a company like Smartlogic."
"We walked out of that event and thought 'Why did it take so long for us to meet them?'" he said.
This question led the team at Smartlogic, a community pillar in their own right having just celebrated their 10th birthday, to devise a better way to generate conversation between large companies hungry for the new ideas and approaches startups thrive on and startups aiming to land the brand-name contract that takes them to the next level. The result was b2Bmore.
Having been fortunate enough to be selected to participate in the inaugural event, we have to admit that b2Bmore seems to have achieved its goal. And maybe even more importantly, this event brought a vision for purpose-based events to the forefront.
We're looking forward to more events like b2Bmore that focus on outcomes rather than connections, and more companies closing business deals because of intentional interactions rather than accidental encounters.
Again great job to the hosts - Smartlogic, Downtown Partnership, and EAGB - the event supporters - ETC Baltimore, TEDCO, Betamore, and Spark - and participating companies - Stanley Black and Decker, Exelon, Under Armour, 3-D Print Factory, Four V Systems, Spark Dynamics, Catalyst IT Services, MindGrub, Federal Hill Solutions, PFP Cybersecurity, Direct Dimensions, RoadMap, and Link Labs!
